GD280 - Senior Portfolio Project - Syllabus
Week 1/2: Introduction to KGA 1 & KGA 2
Week 3: KGA 1 Part 1 Due
  • Project Assignment: An oral presentation including the following:
    • Goals of your portfolio
    • Plan for accomplishing these goals
    • A minimum of three original pieces of work to be revised for inclusion in your portfolio
    • A description of how your plan meets the project goal
    • Get feedback on your work from instructors
Week 4: KGA 1 Parts 2 & 3 Due
  • Project Assignment:
  • Part 2: A revision of each of the original content pieces based on feedback received plus the original piece (a “before and after” so the audience can see your progression).
  • Part 3: A 2-3 page written report discussing the following:
    • Using library research, describe why professional quality portfolios are an important element of finding a job in your target industry, and the attributes of a typical professional portfolio in that industry
    • An outline of how your final portfolio project will be presented to potential employers, including format and content
    • A description of the critique feedback you received
    • A description of the design concepts employed and steps performed to meet the goals and how you dealt with any project constraints
    • A brief description of any techniques or processes that you used to solve a specific problem or to create an interesting visual effect
Week 5: Portfolio Website and Brochure mock-ups due
  • Project Assignment: 2 mockups (saved as jpgs) for website home page and for the brochure (pdf format). Instructor approval required before proceeding.
Week 6: Content for site due, including resume, bio text and work samples
  • Project Assignment: All content for site pages due. Images saved as JPG/GIF images, videos in SWF format, and content in Word docs. The resume needs to be in PDF and Word format for transfer to the site.
Week 7: Home page and external CSS due, all links functioning properly
  • Project Assignment: Create home page and external CSS, add links and content, all links tested and working
Week 8: All site pages completed, content added to site, test site, add meta-tags
  • Project Assignment: Create additional pages using external CSS, add Flash piece, add email form on Contact page along with name, address, phone number and email link.
Week 9 & 10: Complete digital portfolio and put site live, present completed site to instructor/CS
  • Project Assignment: A portfolio Web site that is uploaded on the Internet to an Internet Service Provider (ISP):
    • Conveys the identity you want to promote to future employers
    • A Home page with samples of latest work/projects
    • An About page with resumé/bio
    • A Portfolio section with your portfolio pieces as well as place holders for work in progress. May include a demo reel or more elaborate 3D piece.
    • Contact information (a way for employers to get in touch with you via e-mail, phone or through other means)
  • Presentations to instructor/career services rep.
